The spokesperson for Kari Lake’s U.S. Senate campaign in Arizona stated that President Biden’s executive order on the border is "political theater in an election year." The Lake campaign shared their statement with the Grand Canyon Times on June 19.
"Joe Biden's executive order, which Ruben Gallego applauded, was nothing but political theater in an election year," said Alex Nicoll, Lake Campaign spokesperson. "As proven in the CBP memo, this order has done nothing to stop this invasion and has instead put our national security further at risk. Arizonans can't trust Biden & Gallego with our safety, and they know that with Kari Lake in the Senate and President Trump in the White House we will have a secure border again."
President Biden issued an executive order on June 4 that would close the southern border to migrants seeking asylum if the total number of daily encounters at all ports of entry exceeds 2,500 per day, NBC News reported. Since that number has already been reached, the border closed automatically. The border would only reopen when the daily average is 1,500. Biden administration officials said, "individuals who cross the southern border unlawfully or without authorization will generally be ineligible for asylum."
According to a leaked federal document sent to U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) regarding President Biden's executive order, migrants from all but six countries continue to be released into the U.S. interior rather than deported, as reported by the Washington Examiner. Migrants from Georgia, Moldova, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan will be removed, while all other asylum-seeking migrants will be allowed into the U.S. and given documents ordering them to appear before a court for immigration proceedings.
According to the Washington Examiner, CBP agents in Southern California were instructed to allow migrants into the country rather than placing them into removal proceedings, which contradicts Biden’s recent executive order. A CBP official told the Washington Examiner that CBP will continue to detain migrants "of all nationalities" for an expedited removal process, disregarding the leaked government document.
In April, CBP agents in the San Diego sector experienced 37,000 encounters with migrants, the most of all nine sectors, according to Border Report. "We ought to be able to manage the numbers that are coming across," San Diego County Supervisor Jim Desmond said. "One of the other things we are seeing in San Diego County is boat landings — boats just being beached up on our beaches — about four per week and about a dozen people jump into a neighborhood. We don’t know who they are, where they are going or what their intentions are."
Kari Lake is running for the United States Senate in Arizona according to her website. She was the Republican nominee for Governor in 2022.
