As the 2024 election cycle approaches, State Senator Janae Shamp is highlighting measures implemented by Arizona Republicans to protect against mask mandates. These safeguards aim to prevent what Shamp describes as "outrageous overreach and scientifically baseless restrictions."

In 2021, Arizona passed A.R.S. 44-7951, which prevents businesses from being compelled to enforce mask mandates imposed by any level of government within the state. In 2022, further protections were enacted with A.R.S. 1-611, safeguarding students under 18 in public schools from mandatory masking without parental consent. Additionally, A.R.S. 36-681 protects the public from enforced masking in government buildings unless related to non-COVID-19 safety protocols.

A provision was also introduced last year through A.R.S. 26-303 requiring legislative approval for extending a state of emergency beyond 120 days if declared for "public health" reasons.

Senator Shamp stated, "With election season upon us, we're once again witnessing COVID-19 fearmongering from the Left as liberal entities in Georgia, New York and California are now once again overstepping their authority in dictating mask mandates." She emphasized personal choice regarding mask-wearing and assured constituents of her commitment to protecting their freedoms.
