Senator Jake Hoffman has expressed his disapproval of Governor Katie Hobbs' recent actions concerning the Senate's vetting process for state agency director nominees. According to a statement from Senator Hoffman, Governor Hobbs sent a letter to Senate President Warren Petersen indicating her dissatisfaction with the confirmation process.
The Senate Committee on Director Nominations, chaired by Senator Hoffman, was established to thoroughly evaluate nominees proposed by Governor Hobbs. The goal is to ensure that only qualified individuals, free from extreme partisan influence, are appointed to key positions. These roles significantly impact the lives of Arizona residents, making it crucial for the Senate to exercise its oversight responsibilities as outlined in Arizona law.
"With this latest stunt, Katie Hobbs has doubled down on her commitment to weaponizing the government of Arizona to enact her extreme far-left agenda," said Chairman Hoffman. He further criticized Governor Hobbs for nominating individuals he described as partisans and ideologues and blamed her for any struggles faced by her nominees during the vetting process. "Hobbs is the only person to blame for her nominees struggling to succeed under actual due diligence."
Chairman Hoffman also commented on Governor Hobbs' decision not to engage constructively with the Legislature: "If the Governor wishes to limit her own authority by forgoing rulemaking and other director-required activities in the absence of confirmed directors, we certainly welcome this limitation of her power." He expressed disappointment at what he termed as "petulant temper tantrums" from Governor Hobbs when facing opposition.
