Improvement projects will result in closures or lane restrictions on Phoenix-area freeways this weekend, the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) has announced. Key closures include a segment of eastbound Interstate 10 between State Route 51 and US 60 for the I-10 Broadway Curve Improvement Project, and northbound Interstate 17 near Loop 303 for pavement work.
For the I-10 Broadway Curve project, eastbound I-10 will be closed from 10 p.m. Friday to 4 a.m. Monday. On-ramps between Third Street and Baseline Road, including the southbound SR 51 ramp to eastbound I-10, will also be closed. "Eastbound I-10 traffic approaching the closure will detour to eastbound Loop 202 (Red Mountain Freeway) and can use southbound Loop 101 (Price Freeway) to westbound US 60 or westbound Loop 202 (Santan Freeway) to reach I-10," ADOT advised.
Northbound I-17 will close between Loop 303 and State Route 74 from Friday night until early Monday morning for ongoing pavement improvements. Detours involve using frontage roads as well as avoiding local streets not designed for freeway traffic.
Additional restrictions include closures at Broadway Road on westbound I-10 ramps for sign work, with both directions of Broadway Road closed between I-10 and 55th Street.
Ongoing projects will see long-term closures at other locations starting Sunday night. The westbound Loop 202 on-ramp at Gilbert Road closes for approximately two months for reconstruction, while the northbound Loop 101 on-ramp at Cactus Road faces similar timelines due to widening efforts.
ADOT continues its development under the Regional Transportation Plan funded partly by Proposition 400 sales tax revenue, extended recently by Proposition 479 approval.
