US 60 has reopened between Superior and Miami following a prolonged closure due to the removal of unstable rock. The rocks were exposed during blasting operations for a bridge replacement project on Tuesday. In response, authorities have temporarily reduced the speed limit to 25 mph in the affected area at milepost 227.
The project involves replacing the Queen Creek Bridge and Waterfall Canyon Bridge, located east of Superior. Typically, full closures for this work are scheduled from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays to accommodate necessary blasting and cleanup activities. During these times, drivers are advised to detour through Winkelman via state routes 77 and 177.
Further information about the project is available at azdot.gov/US60QueenCreekBridgeProject, where individuals can also sign up for email alerts.
