Steve Cortes, president and founder of the League of American Workers (LAW), today said that poll results released by his organization show Arizona voters no longer feel the American Dream is reachable.

That poll showed 84% of Arizona voters say families in the state cannot live on a single income.

“Arizonans realize that the American Dream has become out of reach," Cortes told Grand Canyon Times. “Voters will decide in November if we have a path to reclaim prosperity for middle class America."

Only 11% of Arizona voters in the poll said typical Arizona families can live on a single income, and 81% of self-identified Democrats said it’s not possible.

The poll also found that 88% of Arizona voters said quality, affordable housing is out of reach. That includes 89% of non-college graduates and 85% of college graduates.

18% of Arizona voters said the American Dream is "still attainable" in a November 2022 poll released by LAW. 

A family must earn more than $238,000 to raise two children in the Phoenix Metropolitan area, according to a study released March 18 by SmartAssets.

That study found the salary required for a single adult is $102,710.

The number of rental properties in the Phoenix area that cost $1,000 per month or less has declined 86% since 2010, reported the New York Times, with the number of homes for sale for $300,000 or less is down 73% over that same period.

The poll released by LAW also found that 59% of Arizona voters disapprove of the job President Biden is doing on the economy, and that 53 percent of voters say they “were better off financially" when Donald Trump was president. 

The survey was conducted among 600 likely Arizona voters on March 14-17, 2024 by North Star Public Opinion Research.
