Drivers in Arizona are advised to prepare for a prolonged closure of US 60 between Superior and Miami. The Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) is working to remove unstable rock that was exposed during blasting operations on Tuesday.

Initially, the highway was set to reopen at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, but ADOT crews now estimate that it will take several days to complete the necessary work. They anticipate that the highway will remain closed until Friday.

These blasting operations are part of a larger project aimed at replacing the Queen Creek and Waterfall Canyon bridges located east of Superior on US 60.

In the meantime, drivers can use a detour on state routes 77 and 177 through Winkelman. This detour spans approximately 68 miles between Superior and Globe, takes about an hour to travel, and includes a section with a 10 percent grade.

Local traffic will still have access to US 60 between Miami and Magma Mine Road near milepost 231.
