The Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) has announced the finalists for its third annual Name-A-Snowplow contest. Starting today, the public can visit azdot.gov/NameAPlow to vote for their favorite names from a list of 15 finalists. The six names with the most votes will be displayed on the driver’s side of snowplow cabs. Voting remains open until February 25.

The list of finalists includes creative entries such as Darth Blader, Scoop Dog, Blizzard of Oz, Plowasaurus Rex, and Sled Zeppelin, among others. ADOT Director Jennifer Toth expressed enthusiasm about the contest's engagement: “Safety is our priority, and it’s exciting to see so many Arizonans participating in this contest,” she said. “It’s a fun way to bring awareness to the important work our snowplow operators do to keep drivers safe and the highways open during snowstorms. We’re all looking forward to seeing this year’s creative, winning names!”

The winning names will be assigned to snowplows stationed at maintenance yards in Flagstaff, Williams, Payson, and Globe. These new additions will join previously named plows such as Snowbi-Wan Kenobi and Fast and Flurryous from last year's contest.

ADOT operates approximately 200 snowplows across Arizona. During winter storms, operators work tirelessly to clear highways of ice and snow. The department advises motorists encountering a snowplow on highways not to pass them, maintain a distance of at least four car-lengths behind them without tailgating, and reduce speed while giving plows extra space.
