The "End of Trail" event is set to return to the Ben Avery Shooting Facility (BASF) in Phoenix, transforming the area into a scene reminiscent of the Old West. The event will run from February 24 through March 2.
This marks the 44th annual world championship organized by the Single Action Shooting Society (SASS), featuring Cowboy Action and Wild Bunch Shooting. The competition attracts several hundred participants from both national and international locations. Cowboy Action Shooting is recognized as one of the fastest-growing shooting sports in the country, requiring participants to demonstrate skill with single-action revolvers, lever-action rifles, and period shotguns.
Participants are also required to adopt a shooting alias reflective of a late 19th-century character or profession. They must dress in costumes that match their chosen persona, which could range from a Western movie star to a saloon girl. Besides competitive events, "End of Trail" will include exhibitions showcasing Old West skills and crafts, performances by balladeers, and vendors selling period clothing, antiques, and reproductions.
The Ben Avery Shooting Facility is situated on Carefree Highway, west of Interstate 17. Additional details can be found at www.endoftrail.org.
