Improvement projects will necessitate an overnight closure and other restrictions on Phoenix-area freeways this weekend, from March 14 to March 17. Drivers are advised to allocate additional travel time and consider alternative routes during these restrictions.
The eastbound US 60 (Superstition Freeway) will be closed overnight between Country Club and Mesa drives in the East Valley from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday nights for bridge maintenance. The eastbound on-ramps at Dobson and Alma School roads will also be closed. A detour is available via Southern Avenue or Baseline Road.
For westbound US 60, the freeway will narrow to four lanes with two left lanes closed overnight between Mesa and Country Club drives in the East Valley during the same hours for bridge maintenance.
Frank Lloyd Wright Boulevard will be closed under Loop 101 (Pima Freeway) from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m., Friday through Sunday nights, for bridge work. Westbound drivers can use northbound Loop 101 frontage road to westbound Bell Road and southbound frontage road as a detour, while eastbound drivers should take southbound frontage road to eastbound Raintree Drive.
Eastbound Loop 101 (Pima Freeway) will narrow to two lanes between Cave Creek Road and State Route 51 from Friday night until early Saturday morning for pavement maintenance. The eastbound on-ramp at Cave Creek Road will be closed during this time.
Westbound Loop 202 (Santan Freeway) will reduce to two lanes with the right lane closed between Val Vista Drive and Lindsay Road from late Friday night until early Saturday morning due to barrier shifts as part of a widening project. The westbound on-ramp at Val Vista Drive is scheduled for closure over approximately sixty days starting Friday night; alternatives include using Santan Village Parkway or Lindsay Road ramps.
Additionally, the eastbound I-10 on-ramp at 32nd Street will close from late Friday night until Saturday evening for traffic-monitoring equipment installation related to the Broadway Curve Improvement Project. An alternative route is available via the I-10 on-ramp at 40th Street.
Schedules may change due to weather conditions or other factors according to ADOT's plans under the Regional Transportation Plan for Maricopa County region improvements.
Funding for most projects comes partly through Proposition 400, approved by Maricopa County voters in 2004, while Proposition 479 was recently passed in November extending this half-cent tax towards future transportation initiatives in Phoenix area regions.
Real-time highway conditions can be accessed through ADOT’s Arizona Traveler Information site at az511.gov or via their app available for Apple or Android devices by calling their service number: "511."
